One of Eight - stills from performance
55" x 55"
yarn, thread, fabric scraps, blanket, casted sticks
This work tells a story of being part of a whole. A part of a system, a community, a frame of life, a family of eight. The eight branches of the lace each become anthropomorphized into a human form of my siblings in the performance that is connected with this piece. The methodic unrolling coupled with the Hebrew prayer names and placement of the ritual sticks all acts as the creation of a new ceremony. A ceremony that celebrates family, the unit that raised me and nourished my individuality. This piece is primarily a floor object of self actualization and ritual, although it can also behave as a window adornment or tapestry on a wall. The permeable material allows for the love of the sun to shine through.
time-romancer 1
18" x 12" x 8"
3d prints, watercolor on paper, plastic casted sticks
time-romancer 2
6" x 4.5" x 3.5"
bent and formed poplar, 3d-printed top, found stool
With this joint piece, I gave each critique participant a handwritten and watercolored scroll that directed them to engage with the pieces in non-traditional and individual ways. The result was a wonderful cacophony of movement and exploration of space.
